The nice and not so nice in Echosmith’s gig in Bonifacio Global City

August 28, 2014 – this was also the night that an international smartphone brand had a launch of their budget device. As I don’t have an invite, I chose for an Echosmith gig in a mall within Bonifacio Global City

Good thing that they had a free gig ( a nice excuse to save to Bazooka Rocks tickets) as I already expected that they had a stripped down acoustic yet fun set. For those who didn’t know them, they’re the artist behind the hit song “Cool Kids” and their song “Come Together” was used for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S TVC.

The band sang around 8-9 songs as they started at around quarter to 8pm. At first, I only had a chance to watch them outside of the barricades all around the venue but after song no. 3 or 4 (as there still a lot of space), the security allowed me and the rest of the people to go in the area. It’s my first time to use my monopod for a blog coverage like this as I helped a lot to overcome a lot of people at the front who also had their own (only less than 10 had that at the venue)

The not-so-nice:

Before this event, the mall who had the venue for this gig had an Instagram contest to regram the EVENT POSTER (I had to put that in BOLD letters to notice) and post the official hashtags and tag the mall’s IG account. To my surprise and a few who noticed, 2 out of 5 who won didn’t post to supposed-to-be the official event poster. I really went early to question this to the people (I’m about to ask for the Concierge section but quite unusual that they don’t have that) behind this before the entrance. 3 of the marketing had a conversation, 1 of them is a Chinese-looking lady and then later I was faced by a man.

What’s missing to the rules that according to them, there were 3 official posters but as I backtracked the IG account in front of them, there’s no graphics or description that “this is one of the 3 official posters (and look for the BOLD letters earlier – without an “S”) . They admitted the mistake behind it and will look up into it but sadly, they didn’t want to post a public apology at that IG account.

The saving grace:

After the gig, those who had the pass (thru a wristband sticker) had a chance to have a meet-and-greet session with the band. In my mind, I’m just taking chances that at least one Sierota (yes, they’re all siblings in the band) to come near us waiting at the barricades until their vocalist/keyboardist Sydney approached us. Even with those strong arms from a bouncer (I can’t blame him for security reasons but I’m already into this in most rock gigs with tens of thousands of people) , I managed to have a selfie with her.

Oh, that was my first time that I had a selfie with a foreign artist and that’s something for me to smile despite of the disappointments that I had before this gig happened. I’m looking forward to see them again soon.

Smart and Deezer music app and partnership launched

One of the most known online audio streaming apps in the world, Deezer has introduced to the Filipinos with their partnership with the leading local telco, Smart.

Through the Deezer app, you can listen from over 30 million OPM and international tunes right to your mobile device. When you downloaded the app for the first time, you can have a free 15 day Premium+ membership which you can play your synced music without the need of the mobile internet.

Coz it was a launch party, this comes music and technology came in as this is one of my fave blog coverages this year (just like the Spinnr Indie launch which is also powered by Smart) . The event was started by interesting indie folk band The Ransom Collective then a 6-song set by Rico Blanco (as energetic as the Giordano gig), a 2-song performance by Urbandub and Pupil which they played 4 tracks including their latest(?), Out of Control. To cap it off, The Zombettes took care of of that nice DJ set.

As Smart currently opened the doors of the music app service to Postpaid subscribers, they bundled it with 30-day Smart Unlisurf LTE packages with calls and texts and a smartphone. Here are the offers and all plans mentioned below has a P175 bill rebate for the first 6 months:

Unlisurf Premium Plan 1175 (choice of either Sony Xperia M2 or Samsung Galaxy core for free)

Free 24 months of  Deezer Premium+ subscription
99 texts and 9 minutes of voice calls

Unlisurf Premium Plan 1675 (with free Nokia Lumia 1020)

Free 24 months of  Deezer Premium+ subscription
120 texts and 60 minutes of voice calls

Unlisurf Premium Plan 2175 (choice of either Sony Xperia Z2 or Samsung Galaxy S5)

Free 24 months of  Deezer Premium+ subscription
200 texts and 150 minutes of voice calls

Existing Smart Postpaid subscribers can also avail of the Deezer+ premium service bundled with all net texts and mobile internet:

P 25 – 1 day of free Deezer Premium+, 10 MB of mobile internet and 25 all network texts
P125 – 7 days of free Deezer Premium+, 50 MB of mobile internet and 125 all network texts
P250 – 30 days of free Deezer Premium+, 100 MB of mobile internet and 250 all network texts

Smart officials said they will come with a prepaid version of Deezer+ Premium subscription offers soon. For now, you can access the app using Smart Prepaid’s current line-up of available mobile internet offers. Don’t worry for those who are currently using the Spinnr app as it will still be available.

Deezer app is available for Android, iOS and Windows Phone users for free.
