August 28, 2014 – this was also the night that an international smartphone brand had a launch of their budget device. As I don’t have an invite, I chose for an Echosmith gig in a mall within Bonifacio Global City
Good thing that they had a free gig ( a nice excuse to save to Bazooka Rocks tickets) as I already expected that they had a stripped down acoustic yet fun set. For those who didn’t know them, they’re the artist behind the hit song “Cool Kids” and their song “Come Together” was used for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S TVC.

The band sang around 8-9 songs as they started at around quarter to 8pm. At first, I only had a chance to watch them outside of the barricades all around the venue but after song no. 3 or 4 (as there still a lot of space), the security allowed me and the rest of the people to go in the area. It’s my first time to use my monopod for a blog coverage like this as I helped a lot to overcome a lot of people at the front who also had their own (only less than 10 had that at the venue)
The not-so-nice:
Before this event, the mall who had the venue for this gig had an Instagram contest to regram the EVENT POSTER (I had to put that in BOLD letters to notice) and post the official hashtags and tag the mall’s IG account. To my surprise and a few who noticed, 2 out of 5 who won didn’t post to supposed-to-be the official event poster. I really went early to question this to the people (I’m about to ask for the Concierge section but quite unusual that they don’t have that) behind this before the entrance. 3 of the marketing had a conversation, 1 of them is a Chinese-looking lady and then later I was faced by a man.
What’s missing to the rules that according to them, there were 3 official posters but as I backtracked the IG account in front of them, there’s no graphics or description that “this is one of the 3 official posters (and look for the BOLD letters earlier – without an “S”) . They admitted the mistake behind it and will look up into it but sadly, they didn’t want to post a public apology at that IG account.

The saving grace:
After the gig, those who had the pass (thru a wristband sticker) had a
chance to have a meet-and-greet session with the band. In my mind, I’m
just taking chances that at least one Sierota (yes, they’re all siblings
in the band) to come near us waiting at the barricades until their
vocalist/keyboardist Sydney approached us. Even with those strong arms
from a bouncer (I can’t blame him for security reasons but I’m already
into this in most rock gigs with tens of thousands of people) , I
managed to have a selfie with her.
Oh, that was my first time that I had a selfie with a foreign artist and that’s something for me to smile despite of the disappointments that I had before this gig happened. I’m looking forward to see them again soon.
