What We Had On Meralco MTech 2018

It's been three years since we came back in the Meralco HQ grounds for their ongoing annual Meral MTech this 2018 and looks like we sensed that they have more than to showcase to us and the rest of the tech media.

We were right from the opening hours itself. The said annual tech event was kinda revitalized (if to compare to our 2015 visit which their own product so far was the Meralco Appliance Calculator), thanks to Meralco Chief Technology Advisor Gavin Barfield. The utility company was quite ready on their next moves in the future.

Aside from their exhibitor partners which were all from the tech sector, Meralco had their own share of tech starting from their two Chatbot-based solutions like HiRo (yup, that is the way we should type it) which is a Facebook page dedicated only for Meralco head office employees if they need something to inquire on their HR department with a number of pre-loaded inquiries and questions. It has the same template as to Traci (which you can like it too on Facebook) especially for jobseekers who are interested to start or to continue their career with the said company. With the comvenience of like messaging someone on Facebook, applicants can look on different open positions as well as you can just take a picture of your resume to formalize it. Big help especially if you are in the go or for those who might don't have a laptop or PC at home

Mr. Gavin was the one introduced us to their Meralco Smart City which is now operational inside the Meralco head office grounds with 40+ high-tech CCTV cameras powered by solar energy as well as number of sensors that they are using to detect various things to possible accidents to even available parking spaces.

We already heard about it a few months ago but finally, some of Meralco officials gave us some light (no pun intended) with the Meralco mobile app which can be used for all Meralco postpaid subscribers. From the app, you can detect the daily consumption and the convenience of paying it 24/7 thru credit cards or even GCash or Paymaya - even that you are past the due date. When we asked about it, it is already in the pipeline for Meralco Kuryente Load subscribers - a big help if a person is in need to reload their electricity in the wee hours.

Meralco continues to push in more on e-vehicles in the country just like in various private areas that we seen. With their #eSakayNa project with the help of Ms. Raia Galang, they are preparing for two types of it - the one is more like a golf-car like jeep and the one that we rode as a trial trip with some from the local tech media. The vehicle was more like a bus with 20+ seater capacity with individual fans and 2 USB ports for phone charging and can run up to 60 kph plus 10 hours of charging. The payment system for now will be thru Beep Card. Currently, it is now running within the ADMU and DLSU-Canlubang grounds and their future plans to bring it in Makati-Mandaluyong route and in BGC.

Compared to our 2015 experience, it was a lot to cover and conquer inside the Meralco HQ this year which us and the rest of Meralco subscribers are hopeful that these technologies will push more in the next few years outside of their compound.
