Alcatel Pixi 4 6 3G Review

I am done with my first ever 6 inch smartphone check and a first time too of an Alcatel handset. Here's my review of Alcatel Pixi 4 6 3G version.

By the way, Metal Gold was the review unit featured on this blog post.

The phone has got an almost stock Android Lollipop feel with some pre-loaded apps that are easy to uninstall but I cannnot find to turn off their OneTouch stream (if you swipe right from home page) as their answer to Samsung's Flipboard.

The display is a ok for everyday viewing while on internet or reading texts but for it's 6 inch qHD display, you can feel a bit of eye strain if you will try to watch a low res video in full screen.

The sim and micro SD slots all have flap covers just like in Sony Xperia which looks like it's ok for the build but you really need to be careful.

You might have some concern on this 6 inch phone but surprisingly is it quite light, can still navigate on my one big hand and it is quite light with the 2,580 mAh that it was also the same sentiment of one of the senior citizens in our household.

Calls, texts, Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G mobile internet - no complains for me even on battery saver mode which is sometimes a hit or miss in my previous smartphones that I had. I am happy that they included the USB OTG support for this phablet.

On gaming, I knew that I willl gonna experience a bit of lags for the Mediatek MT6580 quad-core SoC as I played Asphalt 8 even at medium settings. Not related in gaming but for how far this SoC will go, it showed some limits especially when I tried to fast forward via the bar at MX Player and I am getting not so smooth in terms of maneuvering.

The benchmarks tell the story out of this budget phablet but I am already that they provided 4 out of 9 sensors and 5 point multi touch. The memory was supplied by Toshiba.

On my video battery rundown test, I got 9 hours and 4 minutes from 100% to  2% on headphones and at battery saver mode out of 2,580 mAh built-in battery. On real life usage, I can max out this phablet at 17 hours with 4 hours of screen on time.

Audio was one of the best that I heard so far for this budget phablet with their 3rd party audio enchancement inside espeially on earphones.

Both advertised cameras are in 4:3 aspect ratio which is a good performer in normal light but not in low light environment. Even the front flash is not helping at all.

Rear camera samples:

Extras: On charging, it was good at less than 3 hours. I noticed some bugs on the device like not sticking to your chosen system language after a number of hours of usage to installing your preferred 3rd party keyboard app. As of this writing, there is no available OTA update which I hope the guys from Alcatel PH can fix very soon.

Pros: Weight despite of the big display size, connectivity, nice audio, OTG capable which is rare for a phone with MT6580 SoC
Cons: A bit of difficulty in video forwarding, battery capacity could be a bit bigger for the size, bugs on set default langauge and keyboard.

For the price of Php 5.499 and for this 6 inch phablet, it was still a good performer for an international brand. You can buy it thru their offline dealers or also thru Lazada Philippined thru this link. I will gonna give it at 3.75 out of 5.
