MyPhone Rio Fun review

After I already posted the benchmarks and the physical attributes of the 3rd Rio, here comes my review of MyPhone Rio Fun.
The iconography in themain menu and the app drawer reminds me a bit of the MyUI and the iOS as it is refreshing to the eyes for it’s price. It is still a stock Android for me thanks to the lower FWVGA resolution and the MT6572 dual core chipset

Phone and messaging

The clarity of calls are a-ok as I tried it a few times using the same telco with the help of my sibling. No 3G calls here but in 2G, it is already enough. I love the black background in the messaging app as I believe that it is also acts as a battery saver.

Mobile internet and WiFi

As I said in my previous post that it is only a 2G phone so better to have WiFi for browsing which is a good news as I didn’t have any problems in connection. I tried it using a pocket WiFi, a very strong WiFi connection at an office and the free WiFi from one of the malls from the south metro.

Gaming

For it’s MT6572 dual core chipset with Mali 400 GPU, I had no problems in casual gaming and Temple Run 2

File Manager and App concerns

The app storage only has 72 MB and the phone storage only has 12 MB. Good thing that MyPhone allowed this device to move your apps and install apps from micro SD. Too bad that this device doesn’t support USB OTG

Battery run test:

I run a few number of 720p mp4 videos via the MX Player with brightness at 6, volume at 10 using the stock earphones, no WiFi & bluetooth and 1 sim inside. From 100% to 1% , I got a respectable 7 hours and 29 minutes. In normal usage like calls, texts and some internet via WiFi, it can survive around 15-18 hours which proves that this handset is battery efficient.

Camera samples:

For it’s 3.2 MP rear camera expect that this will only do a nice job on normal brightness. The flash is kinda weak compared to other phones with the same price range. I also had a sample shot for the VGA front camera.

3.2 MP rear camera w/o flash

3.2 MP rear camera with flash
                                                                     VGA front camera

Extras:

The back cover is interchangeable and you can buy the other 7 colors each at only P99 with matte finish.

Verdict:

For it’s phablet size at P2,999, the local mobile phone brand did a good job on bringing in this type of device. If you want a phablet size Android , doesn’t care that much on camera & screen resolution, wants a dual sim capability, has a strong mobile WiFi or at home/school/office and you’re in a budget this is a nice suggestion for you.
