April 6 2014 when I saw this particular sign
from Alabang Town Center on Drummunity as part of the many events for ATC Del
Sur.
At first, I only knew that it will be
like an “all drums” show as I love it one element of what I love for rock,
indie, a little electronic and alternative music – the beats.
I arrived a few minutes after 6pm, the start
time of the event at the Corte. When I saw the people in different sizes and
age groups hitting different types of drums and percussions, I wonder if it was
really a group when one morena-like beauty with a smiling face approached us if
we want to join. At first, I’m kinda hestitant but I said yes after I asked a
few things. The mission of this gathering is you don’t have an experience to
play any of those instruments as long as you will enjoy it.
Obviously, I’m not a drummer but I got
some beats to share thanks to the various local and international acts and the
help of some of my music making Android apps. I tried first on the tambourine,
then this one percussion which I don’t know (you can see in the pic) but I
usually saw it on some acoustic bands. When I got the initial groove, it came
to the point that I combined those 2 instruments to play.
There’s even one moment when a girl
(around 7-9 years old) tried to play the
conga and she fell as she hit something to the point that the said instrument
almost disassembled. I assembled the half of the conga and the rasta-like guy
said that I’m doing good. Something that put me more eagerness to stay. I don’t
know if he also said that coz he’s near to me and for sure he saw my unique
beats.
One main guy (which I only discovered
after I checked their Facebook page after the event that he’s the current drummer for Rivermaya)
was always present at the middle to lead the beats. Thumbs up also to the lady
who danced in the middle with tambourine. Mostly, I rode to the leader’s beats
but for variety, I also did some complimentary tunes as I had a drumpad-like
device as my 3rd thing at that event. I already got the hang as the
influences of Bloc Party, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Radioactive Sago Project ran into
my mind to the point that I closed my eyes for a few seconds for a lot of times
which means I’m already had the enjoyment.
The presentation ended at around 7:30pm
and I almost not that tired after that. I’m happy that I experienced the
Drummunity as the group will have another one this April 26, same time, same
place and at the same mall. I might join them again at that date
