Balik Bukid 2013 2nd Edition: Our first experience

When we got an info from Balik Bukid Facebook page that they will have a 2nd edition of this unique fair at Sta. Elena City, Cabuyao, Laguna, we already cleared that date to go there.

It happened last November 24. 2013 at the day when Manny Pacquiao had a fight with Brandon Rios. We took the highway route instead of thru the SLEX route for experimentation purposes and we won in this gamble. It only took us over an hour jeep ride .

We arrived at one of the Sta. Elena gates (the nearest in Cabuyao exit) in around 10 in the morning. We travelled by foot so the designated guard easily noticed us that we must wait for the shuttle at the next gate going to the fair which is located at The Fun Farm. We almost waited for an hour to get a ride. We though that the shuttle bus was already our ride but it was for the employees going to other destination. This info was not posted in the fair’s Facebook page but we kept our composure right there, thanks also to the polite guards on both gates. We got the ride when an L300-like van with another guard volunteered to take us there. We went thru the gate near the tollway as we had to get a sticker as a visitor’s pass.

Past 11am when we arrived there and because there’s a free Pacquiao-Rios screening thru pay per view, our first stop was in the pavilion to rest and also to have the first glimpse of The Fun Farm. Even though there were no seats remaining, we enjoyed the coverage. What’s more that Manny won.

Almost 2pm when we had our lunch so days before the event, we had a target to be at Lolo Art’s Chicken Sarap to taste their unqiue chicken inasal that celebs used to love. That P125 budget of a plain rice and paa part was a-ok to us aside from the taste. They even allowed us to have an interview that you will hear soon on the Episode 7 of RNTD Podcast here on this site. Like them on facebook.com/chickensaraplovers or follow them on Instagram and Twitter at @chickensarap

After that, we walked around the area to check on what’s in store. The food booths that took us some attention were the grass-fed burgers, Starbucks, the booth that served Singaporean foods and the wood brick pizza inside the pavilion ranged from P300-P350. From the looks of it, the pizza looks like the double size pizza of known pizza parlors.

We also enjoyed the scenarios like the carabao ride, the zipline and those kids playing in the playground.

By surprise, our rakista/memories of RJ Underground Radio spirit turned on when we saw Kadangyan, a local rock-ethnic band as they a 30-minute set.

After that, another thing that we love was the samba production (Yes, we love drum beats) and that group that has 3 percussionists and a DJ who played a unique yet dancy set.

Around 5pm when there was a mass in another part of the farm. 6pm, when it rained. Coz of errands at the following day plus another concern that we will tell below, we chose not to attend the sunset concert featuring Lee Grane, Flippin Soul Stompers and Rico Blanco.

The concern that gave us a doubt was the reliability of the shuttle service. It was not posted in the Facebook page so what if the concert ended at around 10pm and the service vehicles are already not available at that time? Good thing, we approached another polite guard (too bad, we didn’t saw the name plate on his uniform as the area was kinda dark but it was ok) for help. He asked us if it was ok to us to take a service going to Nuvali (Sta. Elena City has 2 exit points, thru Cabuyao Exit and near Nuvali in Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay exit) , we instantly said yes plus we said to him that it was a better option. The Nuvali route was nearer to our way home plus the reliability of trike rides there compare to the trike in Cabuyao exit. Past 7:30pm when we get out of the venue.

The 4th Balik Bukid fair was enjoyable to us despite of some small problem on the shuttle service. As of this time, we sent a PM to Balik Bukid FB page regarding this but no reply as now from the organizer. We even offered a phone interview after the event (as we were already late for media presscon as it was already listed weeks before the event) but no response from them. We hope that in the 5th Balik Bukid fair, there will be info and reliable shuttle services and skeds as for sure, more will come in their next offering especially those who don’t have a vehicle to be there.

We give credits to the guards of Sta. Elena City as they were the saving grace for us. If not for them, we will not be at the venue and go out of the said city.

Watch out for the Episode 7 of RNTD Podcast featuring our coverage there.
