My recent Marvel vs Capcom 2 experience: (Semi) bloody yet with enjoyment

Last weekend, I am absent for 3 weeks for playing my one of my favorite arcade games. That time, I already felt the boredom and the misery to be in the arcade machine once again so I rushed to my one of my favorite arcade places. It was bad at first as I played at the 1st player. The arcade stick was not in perfect shape. As I really felt the disappointment, I played at the 2nd player after I finished the game. Finally, I got what I really wanted even from the single small detail. As I finished stage 3, I noticed something. Oh, my pointer and my middle fingertips in my right hand are starting to bleed. Yah, that really gave a statement that I had some "gigil" factor to play the game. As I finished every stage, my towel was ready to somehow stop the bleeding (don't worry, it's not that strong when it flowed, I remembered one of the scenes from Box Car Racer's music video "I Feel So", yeah his fingers bleed maybe bcoz of too much string stratching!) As I finished the game, I ran straight to the nearest comfort room to wash and clean my hands.
Few days later, I played the same game and oh, I still felt the pain of too much pushing of the buttons. (looks like it bruised inside) As I typing this blog, all my fingers we're all a-ok!
I believe its August 20, Brewrats FB said its August 21: Happy 2nd Anniversary Brewrats!

I believe its August 20, Brewrats FB said its August 21: Happy 2nd Anniversary Brewrats!

To those who wanna know if I was there at the Brewrats Carnival last night, I am absent that nigth due to some conflicts in my work sked so if to those who are reading this blog, if you met someone who said that is my name in the show (or in RT as general), they are absolutely not the real me.

2007, after my first few months of having the radio as my new pastime (and as the old Hit 99.5 FM,99.5 RT that time said goddbye to that radio showHit or Split which was at the 9-12mn slow when the Brewrats was not on-air). I am wondering on when I gonna tune in next until that day of August 15, 2007. I heard the voices of Tado and Ramon Bautista in Borgy Manotoc's old show in 99.5 RT called Totally Mental. As I remembered, they were the guests that time but they claimed that it's (Ramon and Tado') own radio show). A week after, I heard them now with DJ Angel as I didn't know that time on what's the title of their new show. Since the Strangebrew had their last TV appearance sometime in 2004 in Studio 23, I really missed the trio. I even tried to catch their own solo projects like Angel in morning show Breakfast, Ramon as segment host in Gameplan and some appearances in Dokyu and Tado as one of the stars in Home Along the Airport and Ok Fine Whatever. After that, I really had that habit to tune in every 9pm.

On the "real" date of when the show was born, I believe its August 20, 2007 coz if you may look in your calendar menu in your cellphone, it was a Monday and of course in a weekday radio or Tv show, the day starts in Monday (and you may aslo look at my last paragraph). As I heard one of the "rats" this week, they said it's August 21.

How I wish (ala Wishful Monday), I can have a copy of their premiere episode.

Happy 2nd Anniversary to the Brewrats. Hope that will gonna be nationwide just like their new competitor show Goodtimes.

Forgot to mention: Wow! My text message was flashed in T.E.N. The Evening News

I texted the program last August 7 with a anniversary greetings both in the show and TV5. Something to share, when the Brewrats was still at the night timeslot, I am in multi-tasking mode as I also watching some late night news programs like T.E.N. They flashed the text message last August 13 (Thursday). Another thing, the show's segment host for Sidetracked Jove Francisco was also a brewster as I saw his Facebook account in the Brewrats republic Facebook group page.

Catch the show weekdays 11pm on TV5

August-September Spotlight Artist: Edible Smoke Recess

Way back in 2001 or 2002, I met the band guitarist/vocalist Dondon Victoria in the online community of Misadventures of Maverick and Ariel (the show that launched the comic duo of Maverick and Ariel before they became "Kapusos"). He was still in his old band called Spoonful. Years later, changes in the line-up and Edible Smoke Recess was born which grunge is their main genre with some punk and alternative. They're currently promoting and campaigning for their song "Nyctophobia" to be included in RJUR Pinoy Countdown (see the youtube video at the side of this site on how to vote). Here comes my exclusive interview with their band vocalist Dondon.

1. Band introduciton and story on why this band established:

Don Victoria(me) and Ian Dionisio were long time friends and had a band called Spoonful before... after the band broke up I asked Barry Magano to be part of a new group and create a new music that's in me mind... I know Barry as an active member of a Metalcore band Ammunition.. also a Laguna based group...at First our name was "Picnic of the Edible Smoke Recess".... then became the title of our EP...eventually ended up cutting down the name into EDIBLE SMOKE RECESS...and so after recording some tunes... showing up on gigs..... our album was finally made... Independently and satisfyingly sharing the music to wherever place we could stop by...on internet , on gigs, or even on Inuman Sessions

2. If you have a dream guitar, what is it and why?

I have none.. just want a guitar that works

3. Finally, you already had a song in RJUR 105.9 entitled Nyctophobia, how did (brewster) Ciniul Steve helped the band in order to have that demo delivered to the station?

He's the one responsible, in all actually.. we met Steve in an event in our hometown when he approached me after our performance.. then wanted to promote our music...like lend us a hand... I said "that 's cool and thanks in advance.. here's our CD man..." and so the rest is.. we're on the playlist..ang saya!!.....He's from a town not far from ours...

4. Most memorable gig so far and why?
well the biggest stage we played was last year in A Venue... an Indiejam.org event called Give a Damn.... so that's how memorable it was... largest Amplifier I have dealth with haha... Rock On!!

5. As your fans already knew that Nirvana was one of your major influences, if you'll be in a Nirvana tribute album, what song would you like to have cover and why?
Something in the way... a haunting song for me... great lyrics...

6. Any dream gig (aside from having a gig together with nirvana?)
hahaha... international... now that's a dream

7. Any news that you may share about the recording of your next album? Any changes (either in recording or in your music itself) compared to your last record?
a shift of approach.. but still there's the touch of what 's in our first album... we'd say a more planned album.. mature and a bit poppy....
8. Message to yor followers, band websites and gigs (till september 2009)
the nature of our band is that... we cannot promote gigs right away...sometimes we receive invitations a week before the schedule.. right now our only gig in on August 29 2009 at Al's Bar Paranaque... first event of Grunge Manila which we're affiliated to...someday we hope to see you guys, sa mga tugtugan o kahit saan... we;re happy to hear that you support our passion at kahit pa ganito lang kami... well... we're trying to at least be part of the respected bands in our industry.. salamat salamat.... gawin nating phenomenon ang Indie Scene sa Pinas mga tol... spread the revolution

Thank God, there is still Fiesta Pizza (but where are the branches?)

Thank God, there is still Fiesta Pizza (but where are the branches?)

Back in the 90s when me & my parents after that shopping or mall hopping in Harrison Plaza, we re usually in the foodcourt inside Rustans to have a bite of Fiesta Pizzas. Imagine that time, a double-sized pizza at less than 30 pesos. A decade later as we already transferred to a city, I had a glimpse of their branch in Robinson s Sta Rosa but it was closed after a few months. I thought that time that I may never taste that slice of their pizza. Last week as I am in an EDSA bound bus, I saw an L300 van with a new logo of Fiesta Pizzas (since 1973). Wow, it really brightened up my day but I have a question: where are the new branches of it in the metro? Please please email if you know the whereabouts.

We won against Chinese Taipei

PHILIPPINES 77

Chinese Taipei 70

One weird thing about that the stat sheet throughout the game was Team Pilipinas has better 3 pt. percentage than 2 pt. percentage led by James Yap in the 3rd quarter. Willie Miller did a 3 pt. shot before the shot clock expired to secure the win.

If you really watched and listened to last Saturday's episode of Who Wants to be a Millionaire (with Joey de Leon as the celebrity player). Look at this youtube link and look to the part of video between 2:23-2:27. Sounds like DJ Angel? You'll be the judge.
