Way back in 2001 or 2002, I met the band guitarist/vocalist Dondon Victoria in the online community of Misadventures of Maverick and Ariel (the show that launched the comic duo of Maverick and Ariel before they became "Kapusos"). He was still in his old band called Spoonful. Years later, changes in the line-up and Edible Smoke Recess was born which grunge is their main genre with some punk and alternative. They're currently promoting and campaigning for their song "Nyctophobia" to be included in RJUR Pinoy Countdown (see the youtube video at the side of this site on how to vote). Here comes my exclusive interview with their band vocalist Dondon.
1. Band introduciton and story on why this band established:
Don Victoria(me) and Ian Dionisio were long time friends and had a band called Spoonful before... after the band broke up I asked Barry Magano to be part of a new group and create a new music that's in me mind... I know Barry as an active member of a Metalcore band Ammunition.. also a Laguna based group...at First our name was "Picnic of the Edible Smoke Recess".... then became the title of our EP...eventually ended up cutting down the name into EDIBLE SMOKE RECESS...and so after recording some tunes... showing up on gigs..... our album was finally made... Independently and satisfyingly sharing the music to wherever place we could stop by...on internet , on gigs, or even on Inuman Sessions
2. If you have a dream guitar, what is it and why?
I have none.. just want a guitar that works
3. Finally, you already had a song in RJUR 105.9 entitled Nyctophobia, how did (brewster) Ciniul Steve helped the band in order to have that demo delivered to the station?
He's the one responsible, in all actually.. we met Steve in an event in our hometown when he approached me after our performance.. then wanted to promote our music...like lend us a hand... I said "that 's cool and thanks in advance.. here's our CD man..." and so the rest is.. we're on the playlist..ang saya!!.....He's from a town not far from ours...
4. Most memorable gig so far and why?

5. As your fans already knew that Nirvana was one of your major influences, if you'll be in a Nirvana tribute album, what song would you like to have cover and why?

hahaha... international... now that's a dream
7. Any news that you may share about the recording of your next album? Any changes (either in recording or in your music itself) compared to your last record?

a shift of approach.. but still there's the touch of what 's in our first album... we'd say a more planned album.. mature and a bit poppy....
8. Message to yor followers, band websites and gigs (till september 2009)
the nature of our band is that... we cannot promote gigs right away...sometimes we receive invitations a week before the schedule.. right now our only gig in on August 29 2009 at Al's Bar Paranaque... first event of Grunge Manila which we're affiliated to...someday we hope to see you guys, sa mga tugtugan o kahit saan... we;re happy to hear that you support our passion at kahit pa ganito lang kami... well... we're trying to at least be part of the respected bands in our industry.. salamat salamat.... gawin nating phenomenon ang Indie Scene sa Pinas mga tol... spread the revolution
