There are two things that I usually do when I cover MPL PH games - either go onsite or will spend hours in my work station online but coz of watch party events currently offering by some of the teams, it became a refreshing third option.
I went to a number of watch party locations organized by various MPL PH squads in the past few seasons from a coworking space, hosted by a a cafe but this one? They had a different headliner which will also be the reason for me to be in this town in Laguna for the very first time.
I planned to be in the said watch party location during the Week 2 of Team Liqiid PH's match vs. Team Falcons in scheduled at first match at 2:30 pm. Just enough to still catch on the third match of the day on my workspace and to evade the possible traffic from Calamba to Los Banos and back
We arrived there at barely less than 30 minutes before the match, while the staff had some tweaks from their projector screen and there were a number of spectators there to get the best possible view possible.
The food place is serving DIY Korean noodles, to their rice bowls, Korean-based drinks and bingsu including "the might-be" a new addition for an MPL PH team which will make some space on this story since one of the former league's teams in Blacklist International had one for a known pizza brand.
In an unplanned talk via video call as she was in Manila that time, I met Kallista Poleeen which is the head chef and owner of the food place who currently houses one of Team Liquid PH's watch party locations this season in the said town which is a few walks away from UPLB.
From her introduction, establishing the watch party was easy like cooking an instant Korean noodles since from the previous season as she was a fan of the squad from Echo days in Season 12 as she namedropped Mima Darz, one of the known community leaders and the main cheerleader of TLPH that you are seeing watching live or on livestream. Mima Dars confirmed it a few weeks after I watched and covered one of the match days recently.
She did not directly revealed on how she became a fan of the team but she is playing MLBB in 2018 and began to watch MPL PH games live with her sister since in their previous location in Makati City.
I went straight on the star of the show which is the TLPH Bingsu. Nobody in their wildest dreams that a dessert will be a fit to one of the current record leaders so far this season. The bingsu is definitely something that I will be back for more and also for a TLPH fan to go out of town for this possible limited edition goodie.
On how she formulated the TLPH bingsu as I even said on bubble gum and not blueberry (to fit the color of the team) she said "Most of our flavors (in the food place) , we already have blueberry so I was thinking, leaning towards a different take on the bubblegum since the other restaurants that have the TLPH menu, they offer both the blueberry so we wanted to shift to bubblegum so it's quite different. It is a bubble gum milk based bingsu and then other toppings, crushed cookies (so it) don't be too blue..." She added the candy sprinkles is must for bingsu and bluvberry cheesecake cookie on to
The limited edition dessert is currently available even in non-MPL PH match days and even until the upcoming S17 playoffs
Of course, she is a fan of the team but definitely anyone will have their bias player as she answered Sanford. I asked why on her and she replied "I am an exp laner so I'm going to say it's Sanford. I really like the heroes that he played. The play style. I tried to play all of his champion heroes the way he played so it's kind of more of his playstyle..."
Before the "Dol" craze began since that viral socmed post with MPL PH talent Brigida and even became one of the fave banters of MPL PH talents during the broadcast, I asked her on which is her favorite between Sanford, Vinuya (Sibol days), CC Immmune (from one of the streams of a PH gamer) or King Bob (as his usual name in his RG streams). She gave me a laugh and responded "I think Sanford, Sanford. He's Sanford and everything else..."
To cap it off, she said that she will watch the games live as long as her fave team will be in the playoffs.
