Like in the number of HONOR smartphones that we have, HONOR X5b Plus is no exception that it is still running on Magic OS 8 based on Android 14. As of writing, no info yet on the possibility if there will have Magic OS 9 based on Android 15.
The phone has 4 GB RAM, 128 GB storage and Helio G36 SoC. From those combo as they market it as their first smartphone option for those who are migrating from keypad phones, that was enough for us for calls, mobile data, texts, GPS for navigation and for delivery apps, Bluetooth and WiFi and also consuming online media. Never expect this one to run smoothly on some popular game titles like Mobile Legends.
On battery, the phone lasted for me for around 1.25 days in average considering that we used it more on WiFi and medium usage. With it's 10 watt charger, the phone got from zero to 100 percent in less than two hours. The display was good for an LCD display and bright enough for indoors plus you can have up to 90 Hz refresh rate.
Using it as main camera, it produced more than enough for social based on the number of lighting situations that we encountered .Surprisingly, the image processing speed was good enough and got accurate colors. With this budget phone, expect less when you go further after 3x zoom. Another bonus that you can shoot 50 MP pictures compared to it's standard version. Video was ok but not that good on it's audio.
Comparing it to the standard HONOR X5b, HONOR X5b Plus brings more value because for additional Php 800, you will be getting double the storage (unless you will gonna score the standard version at Php 3,499 which we saw again this April 21). Advantages for me in the available design and colors of it especially the ocean blue, up to 1 TB for micro SD, overall connectivity, battery and camera. I cannot complain that much for it's lack of 5G and RAM for it's asking but I hope that they will make it's price even for a sale price of around Php 4.500 as it's offcial SRP is quite near to a number of Y series phones of a rival brand.
HONOR X5b Plus for me is 4 out of 5
