HONOR 90 Review Philippines
We missed it's previous model in their number series but with a pretty new processor and a headlining 200 MP primary shooter, we took our hands on the upcoming HONOR 90 for some review.
You can check our unboxing and first impressions in the video below:
HONOR 90 brings in one of the latest this year, Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Accelerated Edition SoC with 12 GB RAM and 512 GB of storage with Magic OS 7.1 based on Android 13. From that storage alone, we can easily forgive the phone for not having a micro SD slot but you can still plug it in those old reliable thumb drives. Compared to HONOR 70, nothing much difference on the UI on the 90 so no need for that learning curve.
On connectivity, happy to know that aside from the physical dual sim set-up - the phone can also accommodate dual sim with one of the slots as esim. Both sims can do 5G and we love the 5G toggle icon on the pulldown menu whenever we need it for faster video uploads. The rest of the department worked fine from calls (with VoLTE and VoWIFI) , GPS and WiFi6. I just noticed that on Bluetooth that it receives a bit slower compared to Bluetooth 5.0 (and up) smartphones that I tried
On battery, the 5000 mAh battery was quite efficient for my heavy usage with 9 hours on screen-on-time in an average of 1.25 days. The 66 watt wired charger can do the phone from zero to 100 for about less than an hour.
Here are the Antutu scores on both 120 Hz and 60 Hz refresh rate mode. Seven out of nine sensors are working.
On cameras, the 200 MP primary sensor gives justice based on the better details that it produced from one of our samples compared to a normal shot. 4K videos were a-ok for a high midrange but it had some a bit of shakes. The rest of what it can offer from portrait, pro and nght were very good to us. Just one issue that we notice when are shooting on normal video mode that even that we are trying to lower down the brightness of the focus subject in a well-lit environment, that lever will not lock in after after a few second and it will go back to zero. There were also some instances that the virtual shutter either on back or front cameras will stuck a bit and will not produce one in an instant

On video samples using various modes , you can out our feature on a resto in Talisay, Batangas here
Their promise on risk-free display (we enjoyed it a lot on reading and binge watch a lot of Youtube videos), array of cameras, choice of processor, looks, connectivity and battery were the strengths of this upcoming HONOR 90 that it was an upgrade for us compared to HONOR 70 and more value for it's asking SRP compared to the recently announced Reno 10 Pro. We just hope that HONOR 90 will have it's first-ever OTA to fix on those issues that we encountered on photo shooting, adjusting brightness in video before hitting the record button and on Bluetooth.
HONOR 90 for us is 4.5 out of 5
