Huawei Nova 8 Unboxing, Review

You can check our unboxing and first look here at our video below:

It was our first time to encounter Harmony OS on a phone and we got a huge update from EMUI 11 to 12. Control Center was one of the biggest changes that we saw as the brand chose to separate your usual needs (mobile data, WiFi, Bluetooth) to notifications. From the control center, you can even see the likes of Spotify player and the other must-needs like mobile hotspot, etc. Compared to the normal EMUI, we noticed that there were a bit more compatibility on the number of apps that we loaded thru Huawei Petal Search and AppGallery (which redirects with the likes of APK Pure and APK Monk) on the Harmony OS-powered Nova 8

Compared to Nova 7, yes we missed that we do not have 5G here but in 4G, we are getting fantastic mobile data signals from some of the remote areas that we went in Batangas thanks to Kirin 820 processor. WiFi, easy pairing and reconnecting to Bluetooth, calls, texts and hotspot mode were very good on this Nova 8.

On battery, what we worry that in exchange of it's slim profile Huawei Nova 8 to put in 3800 mAh inside. Good thing with it's AMOLED display and some power saving options, we managed to be a 16-hour device. Yup, we can say that it's battery life is on the average side. Good thing that the box supplied with 66 watt charger which can fully charge this device in around 40 minutes.

On cameras, it was more than average for us in terms of normal and various photo modes that we explored in. The Hi Res mode was a pleasure, full of details for some cropping or zooming requirements. Image processing was very fast. It struggled a bit on selfies when we were in a very light enviroment for some reason, What are missing on this phone is you cannot shoot 60 fps in any of the available video resolutions

Here are the camera samples:

Slim and curved display, more than average set of cameras, 66 watt charging support, their still excellence in connectivity and Harmony OS were the things that we like on Huawei Nova 8. Unless that there is a strong 5G connectivity in your area, going back to LTE might be an issue and if you have planning for an upgrade coming from Nova 7. The biggest downer for us is the incapable of shooting 60 fps videos which we missed on Nova 7. Good thing that it is more affordable at Php 19990. For us, it's 4 out of 5 for Huawei Nova 8
