HUAWEI FreeBuds 4: Setting New Benchmark on ANCs

Huawei has launched its latest True Wireless Stereo (TWS) Bluetooth earbuds, the HUAWEI FreeBuds 4.

This new addition to Huawei’s numeric series of TWS earbuds inherits the world’s first open-fit active noise cancellation (ANC) technology from the previous generation. With open-fit ANC 2.0 technology, air-like comfort, high-resolution sound quality, and intelligent audio connectivity, HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 delivers not only audio quality but takes the open-fit ANC listening experience to a whole new level.

Why was open-fit active noise cancellation(ANC) such a huge challenge for the industry to crack?

Passive noise cancellation is mainly achieved through the physical earplugs, isolating the ear canal from external noise, while ANC is achieved through microphones and the use of noise-canceling sound waves. ANC uses digital means to actively counteract external noise, thereby eliminating noise that cannot be removed by physical means.

Most open-fit wireless earbuds do not have ANC. When wearing earbuds without ANC, users often need to manually turn up the volume level in order to enjoy their music in noisy environments like subway carriages or buses and busy roadsides. This makes it difficult to enjoy a quiet and comfortable listening experience.

The open-fit design is more breathable and comfortable for the user due to the absence of earplugs that go deep into the ear canal. However, while open-fit earbuds are more flexible to different wearing styles and ear sizes, the acoustic environment for the noise cancellation technology is also more prone to change. This means that using the same noise cancellation parameters in open-fit earbuds, which sit differently in individuals’ ears, delivers varying levels of noise cancellation efficiency. The challenge with open-fit ANC earbuds is therefore to ensure that the fit does not compromise on having a stable and effective noise-canceling effect.

Adaptive noise cancellation for a customized listening experience

When developing HUAWEI FreeBuds 4, Huawei’s acoustic engineers first collected extensive data concerning the acoustic impedance of human ears. Riding on big data analysis, the team designed multiple sets of parameters to achieve optimal noise cancellation under different conditions.

Despite the sets of parameters designed, the noise-canceling performance of open-fit headphones can still vary significantly from person to person due to ear shape and how tightly they are worn, highlighting another challenge for achieving effective open-fit noise cancellation.

To overcome this, HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 features Adaptive Ear Matching (AEM) technology. By monitoring how the sound waves are reflected within the ear canal, the headset automatically detects the ear canal shape and wearing conditions. Coupled with the built-in AI algorithm, the buds then assign the best-suited noise cancellation parameters from various data sets, delivering the greatest noise-canceling performance.

On HUAWEI FreeBuds 3, users have to manually adjust to find the noise cancellation parameters that work best for them. However, with the all-new HUAWEI FreeBuds 4, users can now enjoy the smart pairing of noise cancellation parameters whenever the noise cancellation feature is enabled – relishing a customized listening experience anytime, anywhere.

A smart, comfortable audio experience with simple connectivity

Light and comfortable, each HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 earbud weighs only 4.1g and fits comfortably in the ear. The charging case is 21.2mm thick while weighing only 38g, making it easy to carry around just like a car key.

Through an ergonomic design process and thousands of rounds of 3D ear modeling, the HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 is perfectly curved for a better fit, as well as an “air-like” wearing experience, reaching a great balance between noise cancellation and comfort.

Pairing and connection are made smarter with HUAWEI FreeBuds 4. It supports nearby device pairing, dual device connection, and Audio Centre control with Huawei smartphones, tablets, and other devices. It is also the first device to support nearby pairing with a HUAWEI MateBook.

The earbuds support a frequency range of up to 40kHz, reproducing clearer voices and high-frequency sounds with crystal clear detail. HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 also offers HD Recording and Low Latency Mode for users to enjoy gaming and entertainment better.

Behind HUAWEI FreeBuds 4’s excellent open-fit ANC performance is Huawei’s constant R&D investment over the years. In the future, Huawei will continue to make breakthroughs in seamless connectivity and smart audio, bringing consumers even more exciting user experiences.

Priced at PHP 7999, HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 will be available for pre-order for only PHP 5,999 from July 6 until July 15 via Shopee, pre-order for P1,000 and get P3,000 via Huawei Store. Pre-order customers are entitled to get a 3-month HUAWEI Music VIP subscription.

Huawei also announced the arrival of the HUAWEI WATCH 3 here in the Philippines. And it will also be available for pre-order at PHP 18,999 beginning July 6 to July 15 on Huawei Store, authorized platforms like Lazada and Shopee, HUAWEI Experience Stores, and authorized retail stores with a FREE Huawei Band 4 worth Php 1,890
