ABS-CBN's Pera O Bayong Returns on Kumu App

"Pera o Bayong," the iconic game introduced in the nineties by ABS-CBN in the noontime program “Magandang Tanghali Bayan,” is making a comeback as a digital game show on the Kumu app.

From October 28 to November 8, old fans and new viewers were able to play “Pera O Bayong” again through the social networking and livestream app, which partnered with ABS-CBN Regional to bring back the popular game. More fun and prizes await Filipinos as “Pera O Bayong” returns for another season which started since November 18.

Tata Sy, head of ABS-CBN Regional, expressed pride in spearheading the project, which is another proof of the network’s digital shift.

“We are proud to take the lead in this innovation to a game that was truly a household favorite. It’s a perfect opportunity for us to serve both our old and young audiences as the game is very simple and enjoyable for people of all ages and from different walks of life,” she explained.

Every weekday at 8 pm, Kumu livestreams "Pera o Bayong," where anyone can enter to play. It also airs live nationwide via the Regional MOR FM stations.  The first round, which focuses on trivia questions, will identify players who achieve the perfect score that will split the day's cash prize. A lucky player will then be selected randomly from the pool of players to proceed to the second and final round.

In the final round that brings back all the ‘90s TV nostalgia and excitement, the lucky player will pick one of three bayongs that contains a secret cash prize. Much like the TV version of the game, it then leads to a bargaining session between the player and the host who would offer cash in exchange of the bayong's mysterious prize.

"Pera o Bayong's" comeback originated from a pitch made by ABS-CBN employee Paulo Braganza to the company's innovation steering committee. He proposed to turn it into a digital game show for ABS-CBN to ride the wave of rising digital quizzes and games. It now adds to the growing list of digital initiatives of ABS-CBN, which is rapidly transitioning into an agile, digital company with the biggest online presence among Filipino media companies.
