A month to go before that anticipated all-platform annual gaming event, it's time to focus on arcade, console and even Steam-based fighting games at the recently concluded Rev Major 2019.
In the past few years, they had this annual arcade gaming event usually in Power Mac Spotlight but it was a brave yet great move that they brought this one in the still-new Solaire Tent. Great coz of those two days were free to enter. We chose to attend in Day 2 as we just recovered from those massive launch events and media meetings/guestings that we had since last August plus it is more like the semis to the finale of some of the fighting games that they featured there.
There were side tourneys in one part of the place. One concern that they answered (coz of the venue) was the lack of affordable food choices but good thing, the people from Solaire had their own food space inside the venue for some snacks and drinks. There were also some freebies and deals from their sponsors (the one that I love was that free can of Red Bull Sugarfree). Prior to day 1, they set up four different Twitch channels to accomodate such huge list of fighting games that they put in. In terms of walking area, number of seats for the viewing area to the overall set-up, it was very good to us.
In Day 2, they started from Top 4 to finale of Marvel vs Capcom 2 then same to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Top 4 to finals of Street Fighter V, Top 8 to finals of Dragon Ball Fighter Z and the same to Tekken 7. There was even a twist after the Grand Finals of Street Fighter V that the event had a "sort-of power interruption to that [Here Comes A New Challenger drama] when they had a surprise appearance and gameplay of The God of 2D Fighting Games Daigo Umehara, After that, there was a long line for his meet-and-greet session at a separated area. Not only Pinoys but there were also a few number of foreign competitors from those said games who participated.
Actually, what made me went for the first time in Rev Major was Marvel Vs Capcom 2 (as almost a decade ago before I started this blog, I created a known PH-based MVC2 forums in a known international gaming website) and the list of players that I am familiar, most of them who also participated in the last MvC2 tourney of Pinoy Gaming Festival 2019. A bit sad that they did out in a livestream of the elims to the Top 4 of it on Day 1 and they put in Top 4 in the first hours of Day 2 (how I wish that I also went to Day 1 if I knew it and there was no info on their Facebook page). I hope that the possible factor - it was not there in 2018 Rev Major and they are testing the reception of the people of this 2000 arcade game for this year.
