It's not just overseas but Philippines soon to embrace the Internet of Things (iOT), thanks to Packetworx
In their recent formal introduction somewhere in Ortigas, they put in their current iOT solutions on showcase
Two of the most noticeable things that I checked are their "things" that can check the weather conditions outside for the next few days (quite important especially for example, malls) and their air quality monitoring which can be used for a typical office building down to key cities around the metro
Unlike in a typical internet usage from sounds, video etc that consumes megabites or even gigabites of data, these solutions only need kilobites for these data to transfer. So far, their weather monitoring solution is the most versatile so far as it can be checked both on desktop and even from a low-powered Android phone
