HARMAN Announces Strategic Association with Samsung SmartThings

HARMAN International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., focused on connected technologies for automotive, consumer and enterprise markets, today announced its engineering partnership with Samsung SmartThings, the industry leader for consumer IoT technology and the easiest way for people to turn a traditional home into a smart home with sensors, smart devices and a native mobile application.

This collaboration is between the Samsung SmartThings R&D team and HARMAN Connected Services (HCS), a division of HARMAN International that supports hundreds of enterprises around the globe to accelerate the transformation to the connected world through cloud, mobility and analytics solutions.

To fast-track the growth of the SmartThings’ ecosystem, a global team of HCS engineers will help develop and support the SmartThings application and device development. With Gartner, Inc. predicting that 20.4 billion connected devices will be used worldwide by 2020, Samsung is proving it is a leader in this space as the SmartThings platform is currently in over 1 million homes and the SmartThings cloud is connected to over 10 million devices. Together HARMAN and Samsung will continue to accelerate the adoption and solution development across key industry verticals.

In the year since Samsung’s acquisition of HARMAN, the two companies have continuously worked together to create and implement leading-edge technologies for various industries and customers. This new association exemplifies the continuation of a successful relationship between HARMAN and Samsung to revolutionize the IoT and cloud space -- not only for the consumer but also for the enterprise and the automotive OEM.

Through this collaboration HARMAN Connected Services will:

●      Assist with the rolling out of the SmartThings app

●      Integrate third-party sensors into the SmartThings ecosystem

●      Work on feature development for SmartThings Cloud

● Collaborate to create future roadmap features for hub, core and embedded components

“It’s more important than ever to be at the cutting-edge of digital transformation and connected devices,” said Robert Parker, CTO, Samsung SmartThings. “By partnering with HARMAN Connected Services for SmartThings application and device development, we’re able to bring the latest smart device innovations directly to consumers.”

According to Sandeep Kalra, Senior Vice President and General Manager, HARMAN Connected Services, “We’re thrilled to be an engineering partner for Samsung SmartThings and to help grow the SmartThings ecosystem. HARMAN Connected Services strives to deliver experiences at the intersection of design, data and devices. Together with Samsung, we are doing just that and bringing about next-generation IoT and cloud-based solutions for our customers.”
