It was a rare time for me to tap for a review of studio-type kind of headphones and that distributor knocked on our virtual doors and I saw a familiar brand.
Here is the AKG K72 Closed-Back Headphones
You can see the sidings and the technical specs of this audio gear.
It may look like a minimalist type of headphones but it was a sturdy yet light in handling and as well when you already put it on your head. The cord is 3 meters long and you can use either on a 3.5 mm. or 6.3 mm. audio jack which is versatile from today's smartphones down to those guitar amplifiers. The ear cups are bigger and can easily fit it to my pair of long ears. In the past headphones that I reviewed, I can only last for about 4 hours before my ears will hurt. This one, the longest music session that I had was at 8 hours and still no pain at all for me plus the comfy foams too. The build quality was excellent as for the brand itself, I set my standards in a high level.
Other plus for me is the noise cancelling. From my coworking space down to my home, it was really effective that I can't really hear the nearby conversations down to that loud TV program. Of course, the priority for me is the sound quality. It has professional 40 mm drivers which gives me above average in terms of sound clarity and accuracy from the various genres that I played from indie, alternative, hip-hop, rock and pop. There are only some few misses on some of the tracks that require the "mids".
For a big headphones like this, I never expected that it will be foldable so that was ok as well as the lack of microphone for phone calls. If there will be cons for me, the audio cable is not user-replaceable and there is no carrying bag or pouch. The price of Php 2,990 was a surprise for me as for the brand itself, I am expected to pay more. If you are in the hunt for big, studio-type earphones for home or at work (how I wish that I had a music studio) and you don't need to bring outside with excellent build quality and very good sound, AKG K72 Headphones will be my choice for a number of years. Luckilly, it was only released globally early this year and it is now available in the Philippines in A.Refinery stores in UP Town Center, Ayala Mall Cebu and Abreeza Davao
