There might be some impact for me and some of my fellow tech and lifestyle bloggers if this will be a law soon.
In a report by GMA News program 24 Oras by Tina Panganiban-Perez, PBA Partylist Representative Mark Aeron Sambar will propose that the government will collect 5% on Electronics Excess Tax which will prevent people on buying too many gadgets.
Rep. Sambar said in that intereview "We need cellphones but we don't need five or six cellphones or 10 cellphones. That's the aim of this bill, it's just to prevent people from buying too much on a certain product and at the same time generating income for the government".
On the 5% tax, the 4% will go to the government while the remaining 1% will be for Electronic Waste Disposal and Management Program
On Department of Finance (DOF) side, DOF spokesperson Paola Alvarez said "We have to review first kasi unang-una sa lahat kailangan natin malaman ano ba yung target na income na kailangang ma-generate at kung paano nila ito ita-tax. Kung ano bang kind of tax, 'yung specifics para makita natin kung magagamit natin siya or kung is it legal?
For me, this will direct hit some people who are willing to buy a unit if there is no chance and also some offices and companies who are now using smartphones to run the business
