Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year is also one of the most awaited celebrations in the country. Good thing that also this year was the 80th year of one person who brought some beautiful Chinese paintings and art Chan Lim and it evolved later into Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students.
Way back in 1995, SM Supermalls and Chan Lim had countless collaborations from their number of art creations that they brought in some SM Malls. To celebrate it they have an ongoing Chan Lim Art Exhibit on The Block Atrium of SM North EDSA
Before the launch, some of their students and family members gave me and some members of the media on a workshop on how to do some Chinese-inspired arts. Dr. Alex Chan Lim also led us for his own quick art creation for about 10 minutes. He said that the main components of those creations is having a rice paper, Chinese ink, Chinese brush and some water color and you must have a theme already in your mind.
Some of their students taught us on some basic paintings like a bamboo, orchid leaves to crab and shrimp. Of course, we did not went to those complicated themes.
Chan Lim was also there as he did some quick art by only using an ordinary ballpen
There were aslo a number of Chinese-themed dance presentations to warm up the festivities. Actor/endorser Robin Padilla was also there to show his continuing support to Chan Lim's legacy
After the ribbon cutting ceremonies, it was time for us to see their vast creations and it only just limit on those huge rice paper, even on those porcelain wares. You will also have a chance to see Chan Lim's art in person from way back 1966.
Chan Lim Art Exhibit can be seen right now during SM North EDSA mall hours until February 12, 2017
