No doubt that aircon is one of the most power hungry appliances that you can see either at home or in a typical office building. Of course, no one does not like to save electricity costs by choosing the right aircon that will suit to your needs.
In a rare invite from the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines officials, they invited this blog and select media as they introduced the Asean Shine Cost Savings Calculator app which sales personnel (and even for those in a budget hunt) can use to compare 2 different aircon products to check the possible savings.
In a statement,ASEAN SHIINE Country Coordinator for the Philippines Engr. Arthur A. Lopez said "A 5-star air conditioner might seem more expensive at first but the long term savings compared with that of a three star unit only show tha higher efficienct models help you cut down your expenses over several years"
In the Q & A part, they answered some issues. On why they started only for aircon as an app, they said that it has already a global standard which this country and other South East Asian countries can follow thru the embedded formula at the app.
In my part, I tested the Android app for me by searching AC Select. The app only has less than 3 MB in internal storage and it is fun and easy to use. As our country has different rates per month, you can edit it and also put in the EER ratio, number of years to use and the actual price of aircon
I asked one of their officials as I noticed that there is no selection to put in the rate in either off peak or on peak hours (for those who did not know base for Meralco subscribers, off peak hours usually from late night till morning which means less price per KWH), it was already in the works and also they are also open for a possibility for a collab with possible smartphone brands who can put this thing as one of their pre-loaded apps. AC Select is also available at App Store for free.
