Over a year ago, I had the review of MyPhone Rio Fun which was the first one to have a phablet-size device under the Php 3,000 price bracket. It's nice that I was invited recently at MyPhone office to brought in the follow-up to this smartphone.
It started in Rio 2 and MyPhone Rio 2 Fun has the same wider box. It is also the first phone with the brand's new logo.
The front has 5 inch IPS FWVGA display with 5 MP front camera and LED notification. It has Android 5.0 Lollipop but the standard Android buttons are not in it's screen. The back has 5 MP AF rear camera with flash, new MyPhone logo, single speaker and removable back cover. The back cover has a leather-like design but with a rubbery feel.
3.5 mm. audio jack at the top, micro USB port and pin hole mic at the bottom.
Nothing at the left as you can look in the rounded power/unlock button (inspired from a global brand?) and volume rocker.
It got the usual essentials like the instructional manual, warranty card, micro USB to USB cable, 1 ampere USB plug and earbuds which I'm impressed for it's SRP.
First impressions: One of MyPhone officials offered an extra hand as he put in the latest version to my review unit. Compared to Rio 2, it has purer Lollipop feel to the point that it is comparable to their MyPhone Uno, their Android One device. From it's hardware, it is quite an upgrade compared to the first Rio Fun.
Is it worth the upgrade compared to MyPhone Rio Fun? Find out on my review soon.
