It's been a while that I didn't have a taste run (my segment for food reviews) that I got this one off from the recent Sikat Pinoy National Food Fair 2015. Here's one product from Capiz, Capitan del Mar Smoked Milkfish
If you'll gonna translate this into our native tongue, this is the Tinapang Bangus. From it's packaging alone, for sure it is a bit pricey than in your neigborhood wet market but this is suitable for the supermarket crowd. The package said that it contains between 350 to 420 grams. I thought that it only has 1 big bangus inside but when my mom was about to cook it, it has 2 pieces. Based on production and expiry date, it has a 2 year shelf life.
Two pieces of it were wrapped in a microwaveable plastic. As you can see at the package, it is ready to eat which is convenient but we chose to fry it a little or you can cook it via the microwave oven for 3 to 5 minutes.
The verdict, the smoked effect is really good from it's head to the tail plus I can really taste the freshness of the fish and the difference of it over other counterparts from Pangasinan or at a typical fish pen (I'm not sure though if Capitan del Mar sourced this from Visayan waters) plus it has less tinik that I though that it is boneless. I ate it both without the dipping and with soy sauce & garlic concoction and both delicious
Unfortunately, I do not have the idea on the price of this product or on it's availability (for sure it's available somewhere in Capiz but I gonna catch this in another exhibit or better in a supermarket in the metro, I'm gonna buy it. I'll gonna give this a 4.5 out of 5 for now as I do not have the price yet.
