The Meizu MX4 was launched recently at the Gateway Cubao branch of Novo 7 Tech and finally, I was able to get a hands-on and unlock some of the questions and doubts that I got based on what I read and watched online.
First, the physical appearance. Coz of the thin bezels, I felt that I got a 5-inch phablet plus the materials that made the Meizu MX4 was really awesome that it really looks like a flagship phone. With the latest Antutu 5.2.0, the MX4 still managed to go beyond the 50,000 score rank. Novo 7 Tech IT Director Mr. Adrian Lim also showed us more of it’s benchmarks as the device won most of the most common benchmarking apps available.
The display is also beautiful even though that it is quite new to me and for you to have a smartphone with a 15:9 screen aspect ratio which led to some test. Some tech blogs said that there might be some incompatibility issues if you put in a 16:9 or a 4:3 video to this device or reverse, you shoot a video form the MX4 and it will have some problems on your typical mobile device. No problems for me as I took a video from the MX4 (I will update the download link soon) and played it on my smartphone with 16:9 aspect ratio using MX Player and no problem. Same goes when Mr. Lim played a 16:9 Youtube video into the MX4.
I love that the device can shoot up to 4K. There’s a lot of modes for pic and video for this beast smartphone. One thing that I noticed that either on manual or auto mode for taking pictures, you can fully utilize the 20.7 MP rear camera. As we all know that this device doesn’t have a micro SD slot, according to Mr. Lim, you can put in a USB, use it as a default storage so that you can shoot more pics and vids. Of course, you must know the reading and writing speed of the USB drive that you’ll gonna use especially when shooting Full HD videos.
On music department, the default music volume is great at 50% plus I discovered (not yet written on other local tech blogs so far, another #RNTDFirst) that it has the Dirac HD sound equalizer which can support on some 3rd party earphones. In case you didn’t know if you buy the Meizu MX4, it doesn’t have the common stock earphones to make it more affordable. In my Xiaomi Pistons in-ear headphones, the equalizer really did it’s job as it gave me wonderful sound experience.
I wonder on the number of minutes that it can be fully charged. Thanks to one customer who bought an MX4, I got a sneak peek of it’s power adapter and it has a 2 ampere charger which is great.
