There are already a number of less known, delicious but quite expensive ice cream. While roaming inside Makati Supermarket in ATC for a tuna that I previously reviewed, I had a long, curious look at this new brand for me at the freezer section.
Big Scoop Ice Cream is quite new for me but as based on their Facebook page, they are already running for more than 50 years and they are currently based in San Juan City. Price was the number one factor why I tried this for a review as I already missed Ice Cream House sa Muntinlupa (it’s already gone), one of the places in the metro to look for affordable yet quality ice cream plus they really offer true half-gallon and pint sizes compared to mainstream ice cream brands which it shrinked down to 1.5 liters.Same case to Big Scoop as they also offer true pint, half-gallon and 1 gallon size ice cream. I chose Vanilla as I already have a benchmark if this is really good as to compare to of 2 of the best brands for me (and some chefs and restos as they usually have the “A” brand) when it comes to that flavor, Arce Dairy and Magnolia.
From the packaging, it already smiled as just like the old days, it has a plastic covering and container which I re-used for some cases. Others only have the plastic covering but paper container. I’m impressed at this one as it only sells for P65.
The taste and creaminess must be my main focus for this product. After I finished the entire product, what I can say – it can match up my standards for a Vanilla ice cream as to compare to 2 known brands but this one is a steal.
If I’m not mistaken, the half gallon regular ice cream only costs P220 at the said supermarket plus they offer a lot of flavours. I’m not sure if this is also available in some stores but kudos to Makati Supermarket for bringing this affordable yet quality creamy alternative to southies. Based on the flavor, taste, creaminess, packaging and price, I’ll gonna give it 5 out of 5 to the point that this will be my must-have on my upcoming birthday.
