We
were finally done with the test of our first review with Kata, the Kata i3
We
already posted the specs and the benchmark in this link. We go down deeper on
what we will expect from the newest flagship from the said brand.
On
the camera, we checked on various
conditions. If there’s a disadvantage on the cams is the lack of BSI sensor but
it does have a little difference. A sample was when our autofocus was on the
nutrition information of a milk. When you zoom in to the word calcium, it was a
bit pixelated compare to one of our best camera phones around, the Cherry
Mobile Omega HD but it is an above average camera in terms on normal shots
either with normal or low light. The rear cam also has smile detection feature
so no need to push that shutter button, just smile. All pics shot all at medium settings.
Rear cam at normal light
Front cam at low light
For
the sensors, here’s the result as we checked it a few times.
For
the battery test, in moderate use like gaming, heavy 3g mobile internet, texts,
calls, audio and video – it survived for over a day thanks for its 2250 mah non
removable battery. Talking about battery efficiency. We did a video marathon
test with 1 SIM at GSM/WCDMA mode, mobile internet/ WiFi/Bluetooth off. Brightness at 0 (yes, you can see the video at that setting) Volume at 10 and it
lasts at 8 hours 17 minutes using MX Player Pro which is already included in
the default app list.
The
value-added features for us are the 16
GB ROM (over 12 GB usable) and USB OTG support plus their stock earphones is
one of the best for both audio and video. It’s CTIA complaiant so you can pause
your music or video using the pause/play button. The device also has gloves and
gesture support.
For
FM radio, it does have the RDS support and the Record FM function.
For gaming, we tested Temple Run
2 at the highest settings and as expected, no lags
The microphone inside the phone
is also great as we recorded spiels in 2 of our future episodes of our podcast
using a third party recording app at mono mode at 64 kbps so watch out for
those podcasts soon.
For the 3g connection, it’s good
to know that it is dual HSPA+ capable phone. We tested SIM1 only, SIM2 only and
both SIMS and we didn’t notice any
difference in terms of the speeds in our usual mobile surfing and thru the
Speedtest app.
For our verdict, it is 4.5 out of
5 coz the phone is so thin, beautiful inside and out, the USB OTG support and
the power-efficient battery. It's ok to us that it is not scratch-resistant but there's the screen protector as solution. Value for money at P8,499. It is available at The Owtel Shop around the Philippines or shop thru www.katadigital.com.ph
