My Eveready Moment - Typhoon Basyang

July 12-13, 2010, the dates which an unexpected typhoon was about to break in the metro.

I'm talking about the typhoon Basyang. The night (or hours) before Basyang was about to strike Metro Manila, I already had a doubt that this will be a threat for everyone of us in Luzon for days. Good thing that we had enough stock of frozen and canned goods.

One in the morning when the electricity had to cut down coz of the potential strong rains and winds. I'm not surprised with that. I'm the only one in the house who's still awake at that time. My family members sometimes will wake up for a pee. The luxury of having 2 mobile phones became an advantage to that time. One is for twitter updates (including from media, PAG-ASA, some radio stations who also became victims of that blackout as some of their signals went down and some celebs who also experienced the same situation) and the other one for radio. The winds were that strong that I don't want to sleep until it's over coz that might really do some damage in our house plus a potential casualty, our tree

Thank God that I had my pouches of cereal drinks and my size-D powered Eveready batteries were loaded in my flashlight to check the surroundings. I can't go outside of my house due to the winds but thanks to Eveready batteries coz the light really goes beyond the distance. I constantly check the tree, the electrical wires and the roof clinging in a metal brace in our small garage. My situation that time was like a soldier sneaking in piles of stuffed sacks but instead of sacks, I'm near in one of our windows.

Hours passed until around 5:30am of the next day when the strong winds were already done. As expected, almost all of the leaves of our tree scattered in different places but I just took a 5 hour sleep to knock off the mess created by the typhoon

Electricity was still not up yet so here comes Eveready once again to reload the radio transistor of my pop to get some news. That time, it became clear that Metro Manila was really devastated.

The story was ended in good note (at least in our area) as the electricity restored (as well as the mobile signal and our usual day flow of life) before evening, just minutes before listening to my favorite radio show

Ang Eveready ay binibili ko para maging laruan. Mapailaw ko lang ang isang led transistor ay masaya na ako sa murang edad.
