Past 4 am (Manila time) of September 9, 2009, my tummy's already filled with fried rice, last night's viand and a mug of coffee to perk me up to travel from the south all the way to Mandaluyong City where the Brewrats booth is located. It's my first time to visit the Brewrats crew since they shifted to the morning slot. I'm suprised that I arrived at the building as early as 5:10 am. I missed the time that I can go at the boooth as fast as an hour. Today (and until May 2011), from Laguna to Mantrade alone, you may consume almost a couple of hours worth of travel time. Even the security guard at the reception area didn't hestitate to say "Ang aga mo naman!". I already entered to the radio station at around 5:30 am with DJ Cleo Caliente (aka Inday of the Brewrats republic) with her clear shades on. I came there for 2 reasons: one was to put up another "first" that a brewster will be tweeting on what's happening off the air at the Brewrats booth (which was also simulcast in this blog site for those who didn't catch this event) and two, to see the former Atlanta Hawks star and NBA legend Dominique Wilkins. It was my first time to see an NBA player. I even didn't have a chance to see Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant (who already came here in the Philippines 2 times). Around 5:55 am, Tado was the first "rat" to arrive as I'm waiting on the nearest seat in the entrance door. Of course, he was in a suprise when he saw me with a little "kamustahan". Before he went inside the DJ's booth, he said "Bago ko makalimutan...", he gave me some unique Brewrats stickers. I also had a "unique" bribe for him and Ramon Bautista that day. Minutes passed, DJ Angel arrived with some effects of the early morning hours in her eyes (of course, she was still in her kartada 9 looks) with that Team Pacquiao jacket wrapped around her waist. As I greeted her a "Good Morning!", she simply replied with a smile. I also had a chance to chat with DJ Cleo after her work. As I'm already inside the booth, DJ Ramon Bautista went in after the first commercial gap. It was about 6:30 am when some brewsters slowly occupied the available seats which Elmar came in at first. 7:30 am, when I saw more brewsters including Lucius Fox and his wine. Just like me, for sure they're also waiting for Mr. Human Highlight Film. Goodtimes got the first chance to interview Mr. Wilkins (with that longer airtime) that's why he arrived at the show's booth at past 8 am. Man, my 1st time to see a 6'8 guy as he has the exact same size of the door's length of the radio station. As the 3 rats threw some normal and Brewrats-inspired questions to him, there wrer more than 10 people inside the booth including some P.A. s from the NBA Asia Challenge (which was the main reason why he came here in the Philippines). After that short interview, they got a chance to have some photos with the NBA legend. Angel was lucky that she had a chance to sign autographs on her Dominique Wilkins NBA cards. After the show, I only had a little chit-chat with Ramon as both Angel and Tado had something else to do. Overall, it was a great experience for me that day.
Special thanks to Lucius Fox & Roberto Rosales for the photos used in this blog post
